How to migrate

Export your ChatGPT data
In ChatGPT: Settings → Data controls → Export data. OpenAI emails you a ZIP download link (it expires after 24 hours).

Upload the ZIP in idapt
Settings → Import → ChatGPT. The import streams progress live: conversations first, then binary attachments.

Keep chatting where you left off
Imported chats are continuable: open any of them and the reply picks up with your default agent, on any of 200+ models.

Private AI runs open models (Llama, Qwen, Gemma, Mistral, Phi and more) on hardware you own, through the idapt daemon: free, never rate-limited, and no third-party AI provider ever sees the prompt. They sit beside the 200+ cloud models in the same chat.
FAQ
Are my branched conversations preserved?
Yes. ChatGPT's edit/regenerate branches import as real branches; idapt's message tree keeps every sibling and restores the branch you had active.
What happens if I import the same export twice?
Chats import again as new copies today (titles get a numeric suffix). Attachment files reuse the same Drive folder.
Is there a size limit?
Uploads are capped at 1 GB compressed and your remaining storage quota. Multi-year exports with thousands of images fit comfortably; if yours doesn't, free up storage or upgrade.
