What is an AI workspace?
Last reviewed July 16, 2026
An AI workspace is an environment where AI models work alongside your files, agents, and tools, with state that persists across conversations. Where a chatbot produces answers inside a transcript, a workspace produces durable artifacts: documents in folders, code that ran, tasks that closed, memory that carries forward.
What separates a workspace from a chat app
Three properties: persistence (files and memory outlive the conversation that made them), tools (the AI can act: search, edit files, run code, operate computers), and model independence (the environment outlasts any single model, so you switch models without losing context). A chat app may have one of these; a workspace has all three.
Why the category emerged
Models became capable of multi-step work faster than chat interfaces could absorb it. Once an AI can plan, execute, and verify, the bottleneck becomes where the work lives: transcripts strand it, and per-vendor apps fragment it. The workspace pattern (shared files, shared history, many models) is the answer that generalizes.
idapt is an AI workspace: 200+ models share one Drive, one history, agents with memory, and cloud computers, so the same environment covers research, writing, code, and automation.
