Retrying a response

Found this helpful? Share it:

Not happy with an answer? Retry it with the same model, or ask a different model to take a crack at it 🔄

Retry a reply

  1. Hover over the assistant's reply to reveal its actions.

  2. Click the retry icon. The reply is deleted and the model answers the same message again.

Retrying is the quickest way to get a second take without touching your own messages.

Retry with a different model

  1. Hover over the reply and open the retry control.

  2. Pick another model from the selector.

  3. The new model answers the same message, replacing the old reply.

A retry on a premium model is billed like any other message on that model.

Retrying with the same model reuses the failed run when one exists. Retrying with a different model starts a fresh run, so its cost is attributed cleanly.

Retry or rewind?

Retry replaces an assistant reply. Rewind goes back to one of your messages and deletes everything after it. If the problem is your prompt rather than the answer, rewind and rephrase. See Rewind and fork.

Switching models is also available mid-conversation from the composer's model selector, so the next message runs on the model you pick.
