Want a do-over, or a safe copy of the conversation before you try something risky? Rewind deletes everything after a message, and fork copies the chat up to that point into a new conversation ⏪
Hover over one of your messages to reveal its actions.
Click the rewind icon. A dialog tells you how many messages will be deleted.
Confirm. Everything after that message is permanently deleted and you continue from there.
Rewind keeps the message you picked. Only what came after it is removed, so you can answer the same prompt a different way.
The agent cannot be running when you rewind. Stop the current run first, then rewind.
Hover over the message you want the copy to include up to.
Click the fork icon. A new chat is created in the same workspace with the same agent, containing the conversation up to and including that message.
Continue the forked chat independently. The original stays untouched.
Fork is the non-destructive option: use it when you want to explore a different direction without losing anything.
For a bad reply, you usually want retry instead: it deletes the reply and asks the model again. See Retrying a response. Rewind and fork are for rethinking your own side of the conversation.
Rewind permanently deletes messages, including their tool activity. Fork copies messages into a new chat; it never changes the original.
