Managing conversations

Found this helpful? Share it:

As you use idapt more, your conversation list grows. Pin your favorites, give them clear names, archive the ones you are done with, share a chat, or clean up what you no longer need 💬

Pin a conversation

Pinned chats sit at the top of the sidebar so you can reach them quickly.

  1. Right-click a chat in the sidebar.

  2. Select Pin.

To unpin, right-click again and select Unpin. Pinned chats stay at the top no matter when they were last used.

Rename a conversation

Chats get an auto-generated title from your first message. You can change it to something more descriptive.

Right-click the chat in the sidebar and select Rename, or click the title in the chat's title bar. Type a new name and press Enter.

Use specific names like "Q3 marketing plan" or "Python API debugging" so conversations are easy to find later.

Archive a conversation

Archiving clears a chat out of your main list without deleting it. Right-click the chat and select Archive. Archived chats are not in the trash and are not on a countdown to deletion, so you can unarchive one at any time to bring it back.

Archive is for tidying up finished conversations you want to keep. Trash is for chats you actually want gone.

Export a conversation

  1. Open the menu (•••) in the chat toolbar.

  2. Select Export.

  3. Choose a format: Markdown, Plain text, JSON, or PDF.

The file downloads straight to your device and includes the branch you are currently viewing. If you have branched the chat, switch to the path you want before exporting.

Share a conversation

Share a chat as a read-only link. On desktop, use the dedicated Share button in the chat toolbar. On a phone, open the menu (•••) and select Share. Pick one of three access levels:

  • Only people with access: the chat stays private to you and anyone you have already added.

  • Anyone with the link can view: people you send the link to can open it, but it is not listed or searchable.

  • Anyone can find and view: the chat is public and can be discovered.

Shared links are always view-only. People who open your link can read the conversation but cannot edit it or continue it in your chat. Be mindful about sharing conversations that contain sensitive information.

Trash a conversation

Delete a chat by right-clicking it in the sidebar and selecting Delete. This moves it to the trash, where you can restore it for 30 days.

After 30 days, a trashed conversation is purged and cannot be recovered.
