Get an API key
  1. In your store admin open Settings, then Apps and sales channels, then Develop apps, and create one.
  2. Grant the Admin API scopes you need and install the app to reveal the access token.
  3. The token is store-specific. Set the URI rule to your own {store}.myshopify.com host.

Worth knowing

  • The Admin API is GraphQL-first; the REST Admin API is legacy and being wound down.
  • The key header is X-Shopify-Access-Token, not Authorization.
  • GraphQL calls are throttled by a query COST budget, not a request count. A heavy query can 429 on its own.
  • The API version is in the path and rotates quarterly.
