You can start talking to AI the moment you open idapt, with no setup. Type a message, press Enter, and a reply streams back in seconds 🚀
Click the message box at the bottom of the screen and type anything. Press Enterto send.
The reply streams in as it is written. Ask a question, get help writing, brainstorm ideas, analyze data, or just chat.
Press Shift+Enterto add a new line without sending the message.
Each conversation keeps its own context. When you switch topics, start a fresh one so the assistant is not working from an unrelated thread.
There are a couple of ways to start one:
Click New chat at the top of the sidebar
On a phone, tap New chat in the bottom bar
The assistant does not automatically carry details from one conversation into another. Agents can still remember things across chats through their own memory, which is on by default. See Agent memory.
Your conversation opens in a chat dock. Maximize it to fill the screen, or minimize it to a panel on the side so you can read a file or browse your Drive at the same time.
The dock stays put as you move around the app, and every conversation is saved automatically. To find an earlier chat, open Chats in the sidebar. See Managing conversations to pin, rename, and organize them.
Every conversation runs through an agent. The default agent handles most tasks well: writing, research, analysis, coding, and general questions.
For specialized work, switch to a different agent with its own instructions, tools, and access to your files. You can also build your own. See Agents.
You are not locked into one model either. Open the model selector in the composer to pick from more than 200 models, each labeled with a cost band. See Choosing models.
Attach a file to give the assistant something to work from. See Attaching files to chats.
Press Cmd+Kto open the command palette. It is the fastest way to get around. Search for chats, files, agents, and more from one box.
Press Cmd+K
Start typing what you are looking for
Select a result with the arrow keys and press Enter
