Bind a folder into an ebook

Turn a pile of documents into one EPUB with a working table of contents.

Fill it in

The documents to bind, in order.

What the book is called.

Whose name goes on it.

Generate one rather than leaving it blank.

Your prompt

Bind into an EPUB called "[your title]", by [your author].

Order matters and the file system rarely knows it. Read enough of each document
to work out the real reading order, and say what order you chose before you
build, so a wrong guess is caught in a sentence rather than in a finished book.

One chapter per document, with a working table of contents and semantic headings.
Reflow the text: an EPUB is read on a phone at 200% zoom, so fixed layouts, wide
tables and full-page images all need converting rather than embedding.

Design a cover with the title and author set as real text.

Validate with epubcheck before delivering, and fix what it reports.
Continue and pick your folderOpens with everything above already filled in.

Why this works

Binding a folder is mostly a question of order, and the file system rarely knows it. This reads enough of each document to work out the real reading order and says what it chose before building, so a wrong guess costs a sentence rather than a finished book. It also reflows for a phone at 200% zoom.

Questions

Is it valid?
It runs epubcheck and fixes what that reports before delivering.
Kindle?
EPUB is what Send to Kindle accepts.
