Write an earnings note

What the quarter actually said, against what was expected.

Fill it in

Which one.

What was consensus and where it landed.

Revise the forecast and say what changed.

Your prompt

Cover [your company]'s most recent quarter.

Read the actual release and the transcript. Almost all of the value is in what
management said on the call and how they answered the third analyst question, not
in the headline numbers, which every terminal already showed.

Against expectations, and say whose. A beat against a lowered number is not a
beat, and reporting it as one is how a note becomes noise.
Separate what changed from what merely moved. One quarter of margin is weather; a
change in guidance, a new disclosure, or a segment reported differently is
information.

Update the forecast and say exactly which assumption you revised and why.
End with what would change your mind. This is analysis, not advice.
Use Write an earnings noteOpens with everything above already filled in.

Why this works

The headline numbers were on every terminal within a second. The value is in the transcript and in how management answered the third analyst question. This separates what changed from what merely moved, and says whose expectations it is measuring against.
