Synthesise user interviews

Themes across transcripts, with the quotes that support each one.

Fill it in

The interviews.

The research question.

The things that contradicted what you expected.

Your prompt

Synthesise the interviews in .

What we set out to learn: [your what you set out to learn]
A theme needs more than one person and at least one quote each. One vivid
interview dominates a synthesis unless you count, and the most memorable
participant is rarely the most representative one.

Separate what people DID from what they said they would do. Reported behaviour is
unreliable in a known direction, and the difference between the two is often the
real finding.

Flag what contradicted your expectations, separately and prominently. Those are
the findings worth the study, and they are the ones a synthesis smooths away.
Say how confident you are per theme, and name what you would need to check it.
Continue and pick your folderOpens with everything above already filled in.

Why this works

One vivid interview dominates a synthesis unless you count, and the most memorable participant is rarely the most representative. This requires more than one person per theme with a quote each, separates what people did from what they said they would do, and flags the surprises.
